The Sun and its Army - Ginalda Tavares Manuel

"Nimbostratus clouds

Fade stealthily into a once blue sky

Premonitions lie

Ahead

Ominous days are coming

Thunder could be felt

Beneath feet

Ridged to grey slabs

Uncertainty

Tension

But the sun,

And its army of rays

Resist against the grey

Above

And irradiates

Into

Weighted hearts,

Worried minds

Pulsating wrists

Trembling lips.

Hope spreads like

Pipping butter on toast

Manoeuvring like a rapid in a stream.

We sing:

‘Kumpwanza

Kumpwanza’

We are libertad

Freedom."

What people are saying...

  • Really worthwhile and full of information. Love the use of performance to portray characters and bring history to life.
  • A brilliant walk which shares (African) history in a well-researched, knowledgeable way. We need more of this input in our schools.
  • This is the second time I've attended the walk and feel there is so much more to learn. Joe’s knowledge, creativity and enthusiasm mean I could easily stay for the whole day.
